The Egyptian Hallel (Psalms 113-118) is a group of six Psalms sung especially at Passover to remember “when Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language” (Psalm 114:1). They celebrate God’s liberating acts for Israel, fostering trust in Israel’s ever-active God who displayed His mighty power in Israel’s exodus.
Because of their connection to Passover, it is widely believed Jesus had this collection of Psalms on his mind and lips as he awaited his arrest and execution (Matthew 26:30).
